Join Mad Westie this Thursday (4/12) at Funky Biscuit, featuring the live band Roomful of Blues!

Roomful of Blues band has always been one of the tightest, most joyful blues ensembles in the world & I’ve been a fan of theirs for years now. Currently an eight-piece unit led by guitarist Chris Vachon, the band will have us dancing to their sweet and soulful vocals and jazzy, jump-blues tunes. Their winning combination of jump, swing, blues, R&B and soul remains their calling card, as does their ability to fill the dance floor. Enjoy their bassist, trumpeter, keyboardist, drummer, baritone and tenor saxophonist, tenor and alto saxophonist and of course great vocals!

The cover is higher for this night ($15 advance on line), but I am negotiating a discount for Mad Westie! I will add the price tomorrow.

I will be teaching/private coaching at 8:15 for 45 minutes for those under 30, before the first band, and again before the Roomful of Blues band starts at 10:30. All others, may offer a donation to be used towards us bringing in guest teachers for our 3rd Sat. dances.

This band is worth it. This will be fun!

Just to make sure every knows – this week we are traveling up to Orlando for OJam (and any others are traveling up for IHSC as well), so we won’t be having any class tonight!

So we’ve been holding our Thursday classes and social dance at Funky Biscuit for the past two weeks and it’s really paying off. We’re enjoying the live music, having a lot of fun, and meeting a lot of new people from outside of our class.

This Thursday we continue our class and social at the Funky Biscuit. The band is going to be Sol Driven Train, and the cover will be $8. Join us at 8:30 for the lesson, or at 9:30 just to hang out.

 Then the following week, since the Thursday band is going to have an $18 cover charge, we are going to have our outing on Tuesday night instead, when it will be “College night” and will feature a lot of contemporary music – hip-hop, house, and pop.

In case you haven’t heard the news at last week’s field trip or through our email newsletter, we are moving our Thursday class (provisionally) to Funky Biscuit to see if we can make it work there.

It’s still Thursdays at 8:00pm for the time being, but we are planning on trying to go there on Tuesday nights instead, for better WCS music and a better crowd to share the dance with.

For this week though, we’ll have to work with a music mix more weighted towards country. I hope everyone will come out to support us and help convince the manager that we should be there on Tuesdays for good!

You heard it here first – our guest instructor for March is going to be the South Florida’s very own Louis Schreiber.

If you have not yet met Louis, he is one of the local South Florida WCS pros, having moved here from the Sarasota area last year. He is a superb dancer, and a boon to our community, often coming to help out with our Mad Westie classes. (And Louis teaches group classes of his own in Sunrise for any of you in that area.) In any case, we are thrilled to have him join us as the guest instructor for next month’s 3rd Saturday dance.
